Steps Taken to Prevent Misuse of Tatkal Tickets

With a view to reduce the scope for misuse, Tatkal tickets are issued on production of self attested photocopy of one of the prescribed proof of identity and the same in original is required to be carried during the journey, to verify the bonafide of passengers. However, during peak rush periods when the demand outstrips the availability, some cases of black marketing of reserved tickets by touts come to notice at the time of surprise inspections and preventive checks conducted at reservation offices.

During the period from April 2012 to June 2012, a large number of checks were conducted during which 930 unauthorized agents/touts were apprehended/prosecuted.

During the current financial year (upto June 2012), Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has permanently deactivated 14 subagents for involvement in irregularities. Moreover, with a view to keep a check on the activities of agents booking Tatkal tickets, following additional steps have been taken:

1. The timing of opening of reservation of Tatkal tickets has been changed to 1000 hours on the previous day of journey instead of 0800 hours as per earlier provision.

2. Access to Tatkal bookings has been denied to agents both through internet as well as across the computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters between 1000 hours & 1200 hours.

3. Captcha has been introduced to check fraudulent booking on internet through automation software.

4. Booking of only two tickets per IP address between 1000 hours and 1200 hours is permitted to avoid multiple booking from same office/internet café.

5. Quick book option and booking on cash card is not allowed between 1000 hours and 1200 hours.

6. Individual users can also book only two tickets between 1000 hours and 1200 hours.

7. No refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets except under special circumstances like cancellation of train, late running of train by more than three hours, etc.

8. Duplicate Tatkal tickets are not issued except on payment of full fare.

9. Facility of change of name is not available under this scheme.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri Bharatsinh Solanki in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

KVS proposes 5 days a week for Kendriya Vidyalaya schools

KVS proposes 5 days a week work pattern for KV Schools

Now, Children studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya have reasons to rejoice as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangethan is deliberating to implement 5 days a week working Schedule for all KVs situated in India.

Incidentally, Kendriya Vidyalayas Situated outside India such as Iran, Moscow, Katmandu are working only five days a week only.

It is reported that reason behind the proposal to follow 5 days a week work schedule is to allow Students to “pursue self-learning” and follow their passion and indulge in non-academic activities. five-day week would give “space” to children who, for years, merely get an off on Sundays besides the second Saturday of the month. “Keeping them bound to the school routine six days a week is detrimental to their natural growth of talent in various fields,”

Dear comrades.,

It is immense pleasure to share with you that our Association’s 40^th circle conference was successfully held at World University Service Centre, Chetpet, Chennai on 23^rd & 24^th August 2012. Our members were happy about the arrangements made by the Reception committee and we thank them. Many of our higher officers were invited personally by our Ex. CS & RC, but due to their pre occupation they could not attend our conference……still……I… on behalf of our members thank them. I want to record my sincere thanks to our Madam. Ms. Nirmaladevi, Director, PTC for attending this conference. We ever remember you, madam.

 The newly elected office bearers are very eager to work with innovative ideas to face the challenges ahead in this transformation process of India Post. Being the Middle level managers of the organization our cadre is having a major role in this process. There may be many problems to our cadre due to steep increase of work load and shortage of staff. But in the interest of the Department and the Nation…..let us take a pledge to work hard sincerely and achieve the targets in the 12^th plan.

It is evident that many IP posts are vacant in Tamilnadu circle.  Many sub divisions in our Circle, are being managed by additional charges. At the same time nearly 33 of surplus IPs of our circle are working in Northern parts of our country as surplus qualified. Now the concept of surplus scheme itself has been discontinued by our Department. Now, I am to record here….as a newly elected Circle secretary of this Tamil Nadu Circle branch to our CPMG and others at Directorate…..for early repatriation & accommodation of such surplus IPs in our Home circle.

Further there may be problems for you and also for your colleagues (who may be reluctant) in your Division or in the neighbouring Divisions, within the Region. Please bring your problems to your Regional /organizing secretaries and…..if there is no positive response, then to me….as a Circle Secretary.

Onam wishes

Onam (Malayalam: ഓണം) is a harvest festival and the state festival of Kerala celebrated by the people of Kerala, The festival commemorates the Mahabali, benevolent Asura King annual visit from Patala (the underworld). It falls during the month of Chingam (August–September) and lasts for ten days. Onam is unique since Mahabali has been revered by the people of Kerala since prehistory. The festival is marked by various festivities, including intricate flower carpets, elaborate banquet lunches, snake boat races, Onappottan, Kaazhchakkula in Guruvayoor, Puli Kali, Kaikottikkali etc.

The celebrations of Onam start on Atham day, 10 days before Thiruvonam. The 10 days are part of the traditional Onam celebrations and each day has its own importance in various rituals and traditions. Earthen mounds, which look somewhat like square pyramids, representing Mahabali and Vamana are placed in the dung-plastered courtyards in front of the house and beautifully decorated with flowers. Known as ‘Onapookkalam’, People put flower mats in front of their houses, to welcome King Mahabali. There will be competition for the laying of flower mats; Keralites all over the world will be celebrating this ten days with pomp and gaiety. They wear new dresses, visit as many temples as they can, perform dances like Thiruvadhira kali Thumbi Tullal etc. to name a few.

The celebrations begin within a fortnight of the Malayalam New Year and go on for ten days. The last day called the Thiruvonam is the most important. All over the state, rituals along with new clothes, traditional cuisine, dance, and music mark this harvest festival.

At Valluvanad (mainly Ottapalam, Shornur regions), Kathakali dancers in gorgeous costumes enact the legends. A strikingly impressive procession of caparisoned elephants is taken out at Thrissur, where masked dancers also go from house to house performing the colorful Kummattikali dance. At Cheruthuruthy, people gather to watch Kathakali performers enact scenes from epics and folk tales. Pulikali, also known as Kaduvakali is a common sight during Onam season. Performers painted like tigers in bright yellow, red and black, dance to the beats of instruments like Udukku and thakil.
