in nilgiri heeeaaavvvyyy rainfall from 06.11.09 friday onwards.
little gap on 07.11.09 morning and started heavily from 07.11.09 saturday noon to 10.11.09 0400 am.
landslide in 60 places around the Dt.
most of the houses hanging.
death toll 42 (official news from govt).
5 lives in manthada, ketti - ooty to coonoor road.
7 lives in achanakkal, near lovedale - yesterday midnight. bodies captured after 1 km
state govt nominated one special IAS officer for this dt.
hon'ble Ministers pongalur palanisamy, veerapandi arumugam on the way via helicopter.
all roads to ooty from mettupalaya was totally blocked.
heavy landslides in
ooty - thalayattimund, lovedale, kodappamund, doddabetta, emerald, yedakkad, mullikorai, fernhill, nunthala, geddai.
coonoor - katary, upper burliar, near glendale estate.
kotagiri - kattabettu to kotagiri, aravenu.
gudalur road somewhat better.
no access from mettupalayam - coonoor - ooty & kotagiri - ooty.
dt collector says it take some days to open mettupalayam to ooty national highway due to heavy damage in most of the roads.
no town bus services from ooty to villages.
no bus services in ooty city also except some areas.
no power in coonoor from 07.11.09 night to till date.
no power in villages around ooty.
mails not recd for 2 days from plains. and also in most of the areas except guadlur.

this type of flood & landslide happened in 1978. this is one of the worst rainfall & landslide in nilgiri history.
