Today Earth Hour

Globe celebrates EARTH HOUR 2012 on today 31.03.2012 between 2030 to 2130 hrs.
Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support the largest environmental event in history – Earth Hour.
More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change.
Earth Hour is your opportunity to show your commitment to change as part of a global interconnected community. This year Earth hour has launched “I Will If You Will” on YouTube to showcase how everyone has the power to change the world we live in, bringing together the world’s biggest social video platform with the ‘world’s largest action for the environment’.

About Earth Hour :
Earth Hour is a WWF initiative where citizens around the globe can show their support for action on climate change by turning off lights for one hour. WWF’s Earth Hour is an inspiring message of hope and action – a global demonstration about climate change. At 8.30pm on 31st March 2012, cities, towns and municipalities across the world will turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – sending a powerful global message that it’s possible to take action on global warming. Earth Hour began in one city, in one country in 2007. More than 2.2 million households and businesses in Sydney, Australia turned off their lights for one hour on Saturday 31 March 2007. Just one year later, Earth Hour reached 370 cities and towns in more than 35 countries across 18 time zones, and the campaign shifted from a Sydney event to a global sustainability movement. In its third year Earth Hour 2009 created history as the greatest voluntary action ever witnessed.

 Earth Hour in India :
India observed the Earth Hour with 92 other countries between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on Saturday. As the clock struck 8:30 pm on Saturday, hundreds of Delhiites and people in other cities voluntarily switched off their lights for one hour to observe Earth Hour, a global climate awareness initiative.

6 mega cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore- have registered in the race to become the Earth Hour 2012 Champion City! These cities are taking meaningful steps to encourage participation for Earth Hour and build a green community within their city. Is your city gearing up to participate?

Lead the way for your entire city, making sure you and your fellow citizens collectively participate in Earth Hour to make your city the Earth Hour Champion!

தமிழ்நாட்டுல தினமும் 8 மணி நேரம் EARTH HOUR தான் என்பது தனி விஷயம். இருந்தாலும் பூமி நன்மைக்காக கைகொடுப்போம்
